EECL launches high performance off-the-shelf Source Measurement Unit

Latest product announcement marks the completion of EECL’s plug and play test and measurement portfolio for space, science and industrial applications.
European Engineering & Consultancy Ltd (EECL) has launched SMU-04103, a high-performance, off-the-shelf Source Measurement Unit for advanced testing requirements, including semiconductor analysis, battery simulation, RF device biasing, and quantum technology. This release marks the completion of EECL’s RF and microwave out of the box test equipment portfolio, targeting applications where fast pulse measurements, power cycling, and accurate current profiling are critical performance factors.
The SMU-04103 is particularly suited to meet the demanding requirements of semiconductor companies and original device manufacturers (OEMs) producing low power IoT devices such as digital doorbells, smartwatches or smart home devices, for example, where battery drainage is problematic, impacting operational reliability.
“Now that IoT is coming to fruition, there's growing demand for off-the-shelf precision measurement tools capable of wafer-level validation at an affordable price point,” explains Ben Kieniewicz, CEO of EECL. “Until now, high-performance multi-channel SMUs have typically been cost-prohibitive to all but enterprise-grade organisations. The SMU-04103 makes this level of performance readily available to a range of industries with a flexible, affordable, turnkey solution.”
The SMU-04103 consolidates the functionality of multiple power supplies and science grade multimeters into a single, compact 4 channel system, dramatically simplifying setup whilst delivering superior performance compared to conventional systems. Multiple units can be stacked, offering synchronized operation with hundreds of channels, while trigger in/out connections allow for precise timing control, imperative for rapid pass/fail testing environments.
Other technical highlights
Four Bipolar Channels: ±10V low-noise outputs, 3A continuous (5A pulsed)
High Precision Current Measurement: From 5A down to 1pA, enabling >100 GΩ resistance measurements
Supports pico-level measurements for detecting leakage currents in advanced semiconductors
Ultra-Fast Sampling: 1 million samples per second for accurate pulse capture and waveform reconstruction
Flexible Pulse Control: Pulse durations from 1µs to unlimited with adjustable slopes to minimize inductive effects
Integrated Control Interface: Centralised user interface with significantly reduced noise compared to conventional systems capable of full SCPI control.
The SMU-04103 is the third product launched by EECL this year, completing the company’s transition into commercial, ready to deploy test equipment, following many successful years of bespoke RF and electronic system design for space and satellite communications. Clients include the European Space Agency (ESA), Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL), and the University of Surrey’s Institute for Communication Systems.
